Ralph Waldo Emerson felt that "culture is one thing and varnish is another;" however with another work weekend, our beautiful Rhodes Reliant can now shine as brilliantly as she sails. The crew came together to restore much of the vessel's hull to a standard befitting of its lineage and namesake.Along with the cabin sides and coaming, the mizzen boom was also scraped, sanded, repaired, and varnished. But aside from protecting the teak, the crew also made important strides in preparation for installation of the engine, as well as taking measurements to replace the mast support posts (whose bases have rusted).
As the boat gets ready to hit the water, the program is gearing up as well. The crew is currently scheduling pre-voyage classroom visits. Contact us at info@eyeotw.org to receive access to teacher resources and learn how to participate.
